すばる天文台（１） SUBARU Telescope (1)

久しぶりに、マウナ･ケア山頂のすばる天文台の内部見学をインターネット（下記）で申し込みました。もっとも見学会は昼間ですし、レンズを覗いて星を見せてくれるなんて言うことはありません。無料です。
天文台までは自分で行かなければなりませんので、この小さなフォードで山頂まで、ドライブ。ちょっとスリルがあります。
I requested to entry a inside tour of SUBARU Astronomical Observatory through the Web-site after a long time.(http://www.subarutelescope.org/)　This tour is free but it held at day time so we cannot see the stars through the lens(anyway it has no lens to see)
We have to go there(top of the summit of Mauna Kea) by own way. So I went there by this little Ford, It was nervous driving.

これが望遠鏡の本体。垂直に立った状態です。上部の黒っぽく見えるところが、主焦点のカメラです。一般の反射望遠鏡ではここから直角に円筒の外に光を導いて覗きます。すばるでは当時、8ｍ級望遠鏡では珍しく、主焦点にカメラを設定しています。800万画素のＣＣＤ10枚を使って、天体写真で有名なパッブル天文台のカメラの100倍の視野を得ています。
It is the mainframe of telescope standing vertical.The black object of upper side is the camera of main focus.Our reflection telescope leads the light from there to outside of cylinder and sees stars.
Subaru has a camera at the main focus it was very rare of 8m class telescope at that time. It is taking photograph of stars using 10CCD of 800milion pixels each. It can get 100times wider field compare with Hubble Observatory, it is very famous about astronomical photos.

主鏡が納められている部分です。直径8.2メートルの一枚鏡で、最近まで世界一でした。現在一番大きいのはアリゾナの双眼大望遠鏡で8.3ｍの鏡が二枚あります。もっとも大事な部分なので、当然カバーされています。鏡だけの値段は100億円でアメリカ製です。
昨年、下の階に下ろしてガラスの表面のアルミ・コーティングをリニューアルしたとのことです。
It is the part primary mirror was kept. It is 8.2m diameter, largest mirror in the world until quite recently. Now the biggest two are Binoculars Large Telescope(BLT, name like sandwich) in Arizona,8.3m diameter both.　It is the most important part of telescope so it usually covered. It cost was $1billion, made in USA.
It was took down to downstairs and coated aluminum again last year.

第二の焦点である、カセグレン焦点に取り付けられているデジタルカメラ。(我々が使う小型のカセグレン型望遠鏡の焦点。)　主鏡の横に光を出す第三の焦点もありますが、名前を忘れました。

一般の見学で見れる望遠鏡はこんな感じですが、ちょっとした出来事があり、もう少し詳しく見ることができました。(続く）

It is a digital camera put at Casegren Focus.(we have small telescope of Casegren system) It has another focuses beside the mirror, but I forge their name.

These are the telescope which can see ordinary tour but little accident occurred so we could see more.(cont.)

名も無き滝 an obscure fall

地図を見ていたら「クラニアピア滝｣という表示があったので行ってみました。ヒロからこんな道を登っていくと
I found a waterfall named "Kuraniapia fall" in the map, so I went to there. I climbed such gentle slope road from Hilo.Back ground is Hilo town. 

小さいけれど立派なホテルがあり、その傍に滝がありました。
There was a little but fine Hotel end of the road and the water fall was beside it.

この小道はホテルの土地の中にあるとみえて、宿泊客以外は立ち入り禁止と書かれていました。
This path was in the private property of this hotel, so there was a post "No trespassing except the guest of this hotel"

チャーミングな女性に交渉して入れてもらいました。とてもチャーミングな滝です。
I negotiated a charming lady and got permission. The water fall was also a very charming!

ホテルからヒロ空港と市街が見えます。ちょっと忘れましたが、そこそこの値段のホテルでした。
We can see the Hilo Airport and town from the hotel. I forgot the price of this hotel exactly, but it was little bit expensive.

大地震と津波（6） tremendous earthquake and tidal wave(tsunami)（6）

週刊誌｢フライディ｣からの写真です。津波に襲われた避難所。多くの人が避難してきた体育館が津波に襲われました。
These are photos from weekly magazine "Friday" The emergency evacuation place was attacked by Tsunami. Many people died in this gymnasium.

車に下敷きになった遺体を収容しようとしている人々です。
Rescuers were trying to take out dead body under the car.

そして最も悲しい写真。犠牲になった子供たちの遺品です。小学校一年生のものでしょうか、比較的新しいランドセルが涙を誘います。

It is the most miserable photo. These are articles left by the children, victims of the earthquake. Comparatively new Satchels behind might be the belongings of children of the 1st grade of elementally school. We call them "Randosel" and almost every pupils of elementally school go to school with them on their back. These move us to tears.
Please Clasp your hands in prayer! 

ホイティントン公園 Whittington Park

昔、さとうきびの積み出しに使った桟橋のあとが公園になっています。
The ruins of s pier, used for shipment of sugar cane, is a park now. 

小さいけれども、静かで美しい公園です。昼食のお弁当を取るには最適の場所。
It is small but very quiet and beautiful park, and good place to take a picnic lunch.

桟橋のすぐ横に恐ろしい形相の怪物の顔が。長い舌を出しているのがご愛嬌といったところ。
But there is a monster with a terrible look near the pier. It is a kind of farce to stick out long tongue.

実は、ﾏｳﾅ･ﾛｱの溶岩流が流れ込んだ場所です。溶岩洞窟の典型で、この洞窟を通って溶岩が冷めずに流動性を保って、長距離を走ります。べろの部分は最後の溶岩が固まったものです。ひょうきんな男の子が、足場の悪いのをものともせず歩いていって、絶好の被写体を作ってくれました。
It is a typical lava tube from Mauna Loa. Hot lava run long distance trough this cave keeping hot temperature and fluidity.The tongue is the last lava become solid. A jocular boy went to the cave, he did not mind bad foothold,and made a good subject for photos.

ネネ（2） Nene Goose(2)

ハイウェイーのすぐそばで、保護鳥ネネを発見。ここは、速度制限が90ｋで、皆猛スピードで走っているところです。ネネのすぐ後ろがその道路ですが、彼は平気で何か食べています。
この近くには,｢ネネ横断中｣とか｢ネネに餌をやらないで｣などの標識が掲げられています。
Just beside the High-Way I saw a protected bird, Nene. The speed limit of this road is 55ml/h so every car runs at breakneck speed. But he did not care them and were eating something .
Many sign boards around there said "Nene closing""Don't feed Nene"

絶滅危惧種で保護されているネネは、全く人怖じしません。無視されました。

They are endanger spices and protected. So they don't afraid human beings. He completely ignored.

ラマ教の寺院 Temple of Tibetan Buddhism

南回りのハイウェイでキラウェアを過ぎてしばらく行ったところに、パハラという小さな村があります。そこから、草原と森の中を8kほど行ったところに、突然カラフルな旗が現れて、小さな小さなラマ教(チベット仏教)の寺院があります。 周囲は何もありません。
On the high-way passing Kilauea about 30ml. distance toward the south there is a little village ,Pahala. From this, passing through the field and forest go 5miles suddenly colorful flags appear. There is a small, small temple of Tibetan Buddhism. Nothing around there.

孔雀が羽を広げて歓迎してくれました。(突然の闖入者を威嚇しているのかもしれませんが ）
A peacock welcomed us spreading his wings. (or he threatened sudden intruders)

本堂の中は、チベット仏教だけあってとてもカラフルです。１９９９年にはダライ･ラマ１４世も訪れています。
The main hall of a temple of Tibetan Buddhism is very colorful, compare with Japanese Buddhist temple. Dalai Lama ⅩⅣvisited here 1999.

庭には何羽かの孔雀が闊歩しています。
Several peacocks and peahens were walking trough the garden.

羽を広げた孔雀を裏から見たところです。あまり見る機会がありません。
The peacock's reverse side. I have never seen it before.

一人でこの寺を守っている僧です。
会った瞬間、驚愕してしまいました。１５年前になくなった私の父にそっくりなのです。この写真を見ていると、あのころと同じ調子で話しかけてきそうな･･・チベット仏教の教える転生輪廻がこの寺に漂っていたのでしょか?
He is a Lama who maintains this temple alone.
When I met him I was shocked because he looked like my father passed away 15years ago. Whenever I see this picture I feel as if he is speaking to me as that time.
Because the temple filled with the sense of Transmigration, Tibetan Buddhism preach us.

大地震と津波（5） tremendous earthquake and tidal wave(tsunami)（5）

週刊誌「フライデイ」にすさまじい写真が掲載されました。
宮古市に押し寄せた第一波の津波です。海の表面でおこる普通の波と違って、湾の海底からヘドロを巻き上げてくるせいか、不気味なほど真っ黒な波です。この堤防は高さ5ｍだそうです。車の中に人が見えないので救われます。
The weekly magazine "Friday" carried photos of ghastly sight.
This is the first strike of the Tsunami to Miyako-City. It is eerie pitch-black color. The Tsunami is different from ordinary wave, it occurs on the surface of the sea, raised the sludge of the bottom of the Bay.
This embankment is 16feet high.
I cannot see anyone in the cars.

前の写真の反対側を撮ったものです。拡大してみると橋の上に人がいるのがわかります。この橋が壊れなかったことを祈るのみです。

Opposite side of those photos. If you enlarge this you can see a person on the bridge. I eagerly hope this bridge did not collapse.

これほど巨大な船も打ち上げられています。フライディのこの写真集には悲しみの目で見た写真もたくさん載っています。
Even such large ship  was washed ashore. The "Friday" published so many photos taken through the grief eyes.
