フラダンスの特訓 Hard training of Fula

カイルア・コナのビーチで、少年にフラダンスの特訓しているのを見ました。手前のハオレ（白人）の子供は筋が良い様でほめられていました。

I saw boy's Fula lesson at the beach house of Kailua-Kona. It was very hard training sometimes boy wept . The teachers praised the boy of Haole(Caucasian) had very good talent.

先生は3人のハワイアン。太鼓でリズムを取りながら教えていました。

Three Hawaiian lades taught them taking rhythm with a big drum.

真ん中の子供の座り方は正座で、こうではなく足の間に座らなければならないようで・・・・・

The boy of center sat like Japanese style, but it was wrong way. He had to sit between legs like other boys. so・・・・・！

残酷な刑罰が!　身をよじって苦しんでいました。

He had to receive cruel punishment. He was in agony under this weight.

レッスンが終わる頃は、コナコーストの美しい日没が子供たちを励ましていました。カラスと一緒に家路に付くといいたい所ですが、カラスはほとんど絶滅していません。東京のを分けてあげたいくらいで。
At the end of lesson beautiful sunset of Kona coast was encourage them. They went back home with crows (it is the words of a famous Japanese children's song), but crow is endanger spices in Hawaii, so we cannot see them. I want to give them Tokyo's crows!

ﾌｧｰﾏｰｽﾞ･ﾏｰｹｯﾄ(ﾊﾟﾎｱ) farmers market at Pahoa

こちらは、ヒロから25kほど離れたパホアの町の傍に日曜日の午前中だけできるファーマーズ・マーケット。果物、野菜はもちろんのこと、古着、古本、色々なジャンク品、民芸品など何でもあるという感じ。食べ物屋も出ている。値段は日曜日開催で人出が多いこともあってのっぱらの空き地にあるにもかかわらず、ヒロと同じぐらい。

This is farmers market of Pahoa, 18mi from Hilo, it is open every Sunday, Sunday morning only. There are many stalls of fruits,vegetables, used clothes, secondhand books, many king of junks and folk crafts. There are many Hawaiian food shops also.

Though it is in the field, not town, price is almost same as Hilo's, because it open Sunday morning only, so many people gather and buy many.

ハワイアン･キルトや木工品、写真など地元のアーティストの出品も多い。これは、ストンフェイスという工房のタイル状の石にサンドブラストで彫刻したもの。シャレたデザインでちょっと飾るにいいので、行くだびに買うようにしているが、４枚＄２５と値が張るのでいつも４枚づつ。下にゴムがはってありコースター仕様になっている。

Many local artists, Hawaiian Kilt, wood works and photos etc., are selling their articles. These are the sand caved stones made by Stoneface Atelier. Design is very tasteful and good for display on the cabinet so I buy them every time I go there. But it cost $25 for 4, so I buy only four every time. Rubber is sticked underneath for use of coaster.

ファーマーズ・マーケット farmers market at Hilo

ヒロのファーマーズ･マーケットは毎日開かれています。私もヒロに着くとまずここを訪れ、果物や野菜を仕入れます。
山積みになっているパパイヤは、６個で＄１,この色だと食べるのに２～３日かかります。黄色いのから緑のものまで段階的に選んで買って、毎日食べられるようにします。３時ごろ行くと７個＄１になります。パイナップルはこの大きさだと＄3ぐらいで、日本で買うのと格段にマイルドな味です。野菜はさほど安いとは思えません。
Farmers Market at Hilo are open every day. I always go there at first when arrive at Hilo and buy fruits and vegetables.
Piled up papayas are $1 for six, green ones have to stock 2 or 3days to good for eat, so we buy many levels of color, yellow to green, because of eat every day. When we go there after 3 o'clock they become $1 for 7.
Pineapples of this large is $3. They are remarkable mail taste compare with ones salled in
Japanese.
I don't think vegetables are cheap and delicious.


中心街のダウンタウンのすぐ隣にこんな広いスペースがあり、ひなびた店がたくさん出ているなどはちょっと信じられない感じです。花は三束で、＄５ぐらいで、最初の日に買って２週間後に帰る時、捨てられないほど元気で、大抵はエレベーターホールに置いておくと誰かが持っていくようです。
It is incredible there are big space for such many rural shops, stalls, just next door of the Down Town, main place of the city.
The 3 bunch of flowers are $5. When I buy them the first day, they are very beautiful when I leave Hilo 2 weeks after that I cannot throw away as trash. So I put them at Elevator hall, soon someone bring them to one's room.

アロハ破綻 Aloha Dump

2年前のことですが、 帰りにホノルルに向かおうと思ってヒロ空港に行って､ｱﾛﾊ航空を待っていたら、どうも様子が違っていました。スタッフたちは乗客に対しThank You! を繰り返していたし、空港のスタッフと飛行機のスッタッフが名残を惜しんでいたし･･。
後で聞いたらその日がアロハ航空の最終日だったとのこと。ヒロ滞在時はテレビも見ないし、新聞も買わないので仕方がないのですが、それにしても寝耳に水でした。翌日以降の航空券はすべて無効になるとのこと。
About two years ago, I was waiting Aloha Air Line at Hilo Air Port to go back to Honolulu. I felt little bit strange air around there. Staffs said Thank you! so many time, and crew, plane staffs and ground staffs were reluctant to leave each other.
I knew later it was the last day of Aloha Air. I did not watch TV(I haven't) and news paper, it was not strange to unknown about it even so it was a bolt from the blue.
Tickets of after this could not be refunded.
二日後に東京に帰るためホノルルを出発したら、もちろんターミナル周辺にはアロハは一機もなく、空港のはずれにかためて捨ててありました。ずっとアロハを使っていただけになんともいえず悲しい光景です。
最近、火山の噴煙による航空機の欠航とか日本航空問題とかが騒がれているので思い出しました。

Two days after when I left Honolulu Air Port there were no Aloha Plane around the terminal building, but dumped all together at the edge of the air port. I always used Aloha it was very sad scene indeed.
Recently Air Line make topics so many time, cancel frights by volcanic ashes of Ireland or Japan Air Line, I remember this episode.

ハワイ島では当然ながらトロピカルフルーツがおいしくて安い。この写真にある果物全部で＄3ぐらいといったら驚くでしょう。大量の青いバナナとアボカドはコンドーの庭で取ったからタダ。


Tropical fruits are very delicious and cheap in Hawaii, of course. Don't you feel surprise All fruits in this photo are only $3. There is trick, green bananas and avocado were free because I picked them up in the garden of my apartment.


パイナップルは＄2、黄色のバナナは一房10本で＄1、問題はパパイヤ、スーパーの石井で1っこ1290円だったものが、7個で＄1。一番手前の果物は名前を忘れましたが＄1でした。(いずれもヒロのﾌｧｰﾏｰｽﾞﾏｰｹｯﾄで)


Pineapple was $2, yellow bananas of ten pieces were $1,Papayas were $1 for 7.(It was ￥1290 for one at Supermarket Ishii in Japan)　at farmer's market in Hilo.


白い蘭が挿してある花瓶に注目。拾った椰子の実の中央部を半分に割って作ったもの。蘭によく合うと自慢のものです。


Please look the vase of white orchid carefully. I made it with coconut. I am proud it looks very good for orchids

バナナを収穫したバナナの木。房を切った瞬間、樹液が飛び出しズボンとシャツに濃い茶色のしみをつけた。何度洗っても取れないので、考えようにやっては高いバナナであった。

These were Banana trees that I got them. When I cut the bunch of bananas, sap gushed out from cut end and pour on me and made dark brown stains on my pants and shirt. I could not remove them either washing or using stain remover.

So those bananas were very expensive ones.　

この右側にアボカド（アボガドと発音したらどうしても通じない。アボケ-ド　Avocadoだとおしえられた）の大木があり、実が落ちてくる。サラダに入れると本当においしい。

There is a big avocado tree on the right side of banana. Some times the ripe avocado fall down. Add salad it is very tasty. (So many Japanese think it is avoGAdo. It is wrong.)
