枯れたのではなく枯らしたアルビジア Not die but kill Albizia

 

 アルビジアの森が方々で枯れているのが目につきました。美しいうっそうとした森なのに、非常に残念に思いました。前回のブログで、ハリケーン「イゼル」でなぎたおされたアルビジアを掲載していますが、強風で倒れなかったけど、根にダメージを受けて立ち枯れたのだろうと思いましたが、念のため友人のアランに枯れた原因を聞いてみました。なんと、
枯れたのではなく、枯らしているのだそうです。この木は外来種で成長が早く、巨木になるのですが「イゼル」の経験で分かったように、非常にもろくたおれやすいので、電線を切ったり、家屋を壊したり多くの被害をもたらすので、州政府も応援して撲滅を図っているそうです。
調べてみると、木に切り込みを入れ除草剤を塗ると、一年足らずで枯れ始め、最初枝が落ち、幹だけになり、倒れてしまうそうです。伐採しようとすると大変の費用が掛かるが、この方法だと安く済むとのことでした。隣家、特に空き地のアルビジアが危険になり、持ち主が対処しないと州が処理し、持ち主に請求することまでやっているみたいです。
This time,Sep.1/2015, I see many Albizia forests are dying. Those forests are very beautiful so I feel very sad. Last year I saw many Albizia fell down by the strong wind of Hurricane Iselle. And I thought so many trees got damage at the root by that storm so they did not fall down but died. Just to make sure, I asked my friend, Alan, about this. It amazed me....
Those did not die but were killed. Albizia is an alien and grow very rapid and becomes very big but it is very weak. As we experienced at Isele, many Albizias fell down and gave big damage about electric wire, houses,road, etc. So we are killing them and the County assist it.
According my research, make shallow cuts in the wood and put a weed-killer on it, it begin to die in a year and all blanches fall then die.

 

この写真は、レインボーフォールの上流、ボイリングポッドの、今回と５年程前の写真を並べたものです。立ち枯れているのが、アルビジアで、その成長の早さがわかると思います。
景観の上からは、非常に美しい木で、この二枚の写真を比べても、下の写真のほうが美しいと感じる人は多いと思います。もちろん、時々来る観光気分の私が、住んでる人の被害を無視してそんなことを言ってはいけないと重重承知ですが,ちょっと考えさせる問題でもあります。
These photos are the place of Boiling Pod, a little up the Rainbow Fall. Lower is 5years ago, upper is now. Dead trees are Albizia, you can easily understand the speed of growth of These trees.
But Albizia is beautiful tree, I guess many people think lower is more beautiful than upper.
Think about the suffering of the resident, of course,  I never say so but it is very difficult problem.

スパイダーマンの椰子の実取り spiderman cut off the coconuts

公園の椰子の実を、危険防止の意味から除去する作業は、私の関心の的でしたが、遂にその現場を写真に撮ることができました。これは椰子の木から椰子の木に移っている場面で、まさにスパイダーマンさながらです。

I have a particular concern to take photos of work to clime palm tree and take off coconuts, from the meaning of risk prevention. At last I met it and had a time change to telephoto lens.
This scene is just moving to palm tree to another one, exactly spider-man he is.
椰子の実を一房切り落としました。まだ若い実です。同じ要領で葉っぱも切り落とします。かなり重量があるので危険だからです。
He cut off one bunch of coconuts that are still young. He leaves fronds in the same way, because these are also very heavy.


高いところから落ちるので、かなりの音がします。なるほど、これが頭に当ったら大変です。

Fall from a high place, so these make considerable noise. Indeed if these hit to head one might be seriously hurt.

靴につけたこの爪を幹に食い込ませて体を持ち上げていくそうです。それにしても20m以上も高いところでやる作業です。見ているだけでも身がすくみます。
椰子を割ってミルクを飲ませてくれました。あまりおいしくないけれど、腎臓にいいそうです。
To clime the palm tree stick this spike into the trunk and lift body by foot and arm. He works higher than 20m, it is very fearful for me just looking.
He cut the coconut and gave me coconut milk. He said it is not tasty but good for kidney.
