ヒロの無料動物園 Free Zoo at Hilo

ヒロ郊外に入場料無料の動物園があります。ライオンとか象とかがいるわけではないが、クジャクがそこいらを歩き回っている、自然いっぱいの動物園です。
There is a free zoo in the suburbs of Hilo. No lion or elephant but peacocks walk around in the zoo.

唯一の猛獣がトラ、初代のホワイトタイガー、ナマステ(インド語のこんにちは)が死んだ後、第二代目のホワイトタイガー、名前は忘れました。
It is the new white tiger. Previous one,name Namasute, means Hallow, died.

今度は一緒にベンガルタイガーも買ったようです。
Zoo also bought a Bengal tiger.

二匹が猫のようにじゃれあっていますが、大きいだけあって迫力があります。
They are playing as cats. They are very big so it is powerful.

すぐ足元にトカゲが陰険な目でにらんでいます。
A lizard stared us with sinister look from near my steps.

岩山の上では、山羊が馬鹿にしたような目でこちらを見ています。(クリック）

ニシキヘビが大きなネズミを呑んでいました。
遊園具などもあり、子供たちには最高の場所です。
A python is swallowing a big rat.
There are playground equipments. It is very good place for children.

虹のふもと foot of Rainbow

ハワイ、特にヒロは雨が多く日差しも強いせいか、美しい虹をしょっちゅ見ることができます。これは私のコンドーから撮った虹です。虹のふもとには宝物とか幸福が埋まっているといわれています。すぐそこが虹のふもとですが、訪ね行くと逃げてしまいます。
We can see many splendid rainbows in Hilo, because of much rain and strong sunshine. I took this photo from my condo. Japanese thinks there is a treasure or happiness in the foot of the rainbow. It is very close but when I go there rainbow escape from me.

溶岩流から守られた教会 Charch evacuated from Lava Flow

 スター・オブ・ザ・シーと呼ばれるこの教会は、1928年にカラパナの海岸沿いに建てられた美しい教会でした。
しかし、1990年カラパナを全滅させた溶岩流が迫ってきました。多くの住民はこの溶岩流で自分の家を失ったにもかかわらず、この教会を土台から切り離し避難させました。
現在はパホアから32kmほど行った新黒砂海岸に近いところに立っています。
This charming church, Star of the Sea, was built in 1928 near the beach of Kalapana. But in 1990 Lava flow was approaching this Church. This flow finally destroyed Kalapana completely. Community members, though many of them lost their own house, had to lift it from the foundations to move and save it just in the nick of time.
It is now built near the New Black Sand Beach 20ml from Pahoa.

 内部もとてもきれいです。ホナウナウ(西側)の近くに有名なセント・ベネディクト・ペインテッド教会という内部に聖画が書かれた小さな教会がありますが、同じ人が建てたものです。
Its inside is also very charming. There is a little church near Honaunau (west side of Island) named St. Benedict Painted Church. It is very famous for many sacred pictures drawn inside. Same architect built both.

カトリック教会なのでしょう。十字架にイエスの像があり、庭にマリア像が立っています。
It must be Roman Catholic Church, there is a figure of Jesus Christ on the Holy Cross and image of the Virgin Mary in the garden.
