溶岩流のオーシャンエントリー Ocean Entry of Lava flow

南西方向から、キラウエア61Gと呼ばれている溶岩流のオーシャンエントリーの白煙を確認しました。
I saw white smoke of lave, Kilauea 61G Lava flow, pouring into the ocean from the south west.

北東方向からのほうが、写真にみられる砕石の道路があるのでそちらからアプローチしました。
駐車場から７kmほどの距離です。貸自転車の店がたくさんありました。1時間＄10です。あまり借りる人はいません。なぜかな？？
I approached from the north east because there is a gravel road. The point of the ocean entry was 5miles from the parking. There were many rental bicycle shops at the parking. Rental fee was $10 for one hour but few people borrow it. I could not understand why.

歩くと2時間が自転車で45分、道路が溶岩流でふさがれたところにつきました。この溶岩の上を左の海まで下がります。ころんだら大けがをするでしょう。
It took 45minutes to the end of the road, blocked by lava flow. If I walked it may be 2hours. To see the ocean entry we had to go left on this lava field to the sea side. If fall down get serious injury.

固まったばかりの溶岩が温度差によって、大きなひびが入っています。
Just harden lava got a crack made by differentiation of temperature.

豪快な溶岩の海への流入です。風向きによっては何も見えないことがあるそうです。
Dynamic lava ocean entry. If wind blows from opposite side we would be able to see nothing.

観光船が来ました。ヒロから出ていて＄100ぐらいです。楽だし近くから見えますが、せいぜい5分ぐらいの観光を二回していました。ちょっと火山に詳しい私に言わせると、きわめて無謀な行動です。崩落があって水蒸気爆発が起こればひとたまりもありません。
Sightseeing ship came from Hilo. Pay $100, it is easy to come here and can see near the entry but they approached twice, once was only for about five minutes. I am little bit well informed about Volcano so I think it is very reckless tour. When the collapse happens and viper explosion occur they get serious damage without the least resistance.

現に、10分後に左の白丸のところで小さな爆発が起こっています。そこに船がいたら何人かやけどを負ったでしょう。(写真をクリック)
右の白三角のところは、この溶岩流の源泉、プオゥオゥ・クレーターの噴火です。この二つを同じ画面に収めた写真はないと自画自賛をしていますが・・プオゥオゥから流れ出した溶岩が溶岩トンネルを通って、右端の赤くなっている部分で地上に出て、海に流れ込んでいます。
Small explosion actually occurred at white circle point(click the photo), just after 10minutes the ship left. If it was there some passengers got burn.
Pu'u 'O'o erupted in the white triangle mark. It is the source of this lava, lava flows in the lava rube and comes out on the ground at the red point (right side of this photo) and go into the sea.
I blow my own trumpet it is very rare to take two point in one picture.

真っ暗になるまで写真を撮って、問題は帰り道でした。ポケットLEDライトで割れ目だらけの溶岩の上を道まで登り、それから乏しいライトで砂利道を走ります。しかもブレーキが前輪しかきかなくなってしまいました。溶岩を砕いた砂利道の下り坂で前ブレーキをかける恐ろしさをお分かりになりますか？昼間ならとにかく、夜みんなが自転車を借りない理由がわかりました。

そのうえ、ギアが壊れ登りは押して上がりました。悔しいから、4時間＄40のところを＄30に値切りました。こんな時は英語がスラスラ出てきます。
I took picture until dark but big problem waited on the way back. I had only packet size LED flash light. It is very fearful to clime up on the pitch-dark, many clack lava field in the utter darkness with this poor light.
And it was more dreadful to drive bicycle on the macadam road, in addition rear brake did't work. Suppose the terror to brake the front wheel at the down road covered with crushed rough lave.
And one more addition low gear was broken so I had to pushed the bike at up hill road.
I understood few person borrow the bike in the evening.
I got mad I negotiated to discount 4hours $40 to $30. In such situation I could speak English fluently!

ハレマウマウ火口の推移 Change of Halemaumau Crater

 

 

 



 



 

キラウエア・カルデラのなかにあるハレマウマウ火口の中に、オーバールック火口ができてもう7年もたちますが(ラベル「キラウエア」の「キラウエア」、「山頂噴火の推移」参照）、2015年の4月に急激に溶岩がせり上がり、ついにはあふれ出しました。

(この写真は、USGSのWebに掲載された写真です。）そしてあっという間に、引いてしまいました。

7years passed Overlook Crater appeared in Halemaumau Crater, which is in Kilauea Caldera. (my blog "Kilauea" and "summit eruption" in Label "Kilauea, ") April of 2015, level of lava lake was going up and finally overflowed, and soon fell down. These photo are from USGS Web-site.

2015年9月の写真です。煙が薄くなりました。あふれ出た溶岩の跡が黒く残っています。(クリックして拡大するとこの一年の違いが判ります。）

夕方になると、火映が美しくなり、ジャガ－ミュジアムでは三脚が立てられないほど人が集まり、場所を移しました。

Flames of lave was very beautiful at evening. Many people gathered front of Jaggar Museum so I could not  use the tripod. 

レィンジャーに教わった場所から写しました。神秘的な美しさです。
I moved to the place that Ranger thought me. Mystic beauty!!

火口の風下では、ペレの毛が大量にたまっているそうです。これを見せてくれたレィンジャーにひとつまみくださいと頼んだのですが、だめでした。その後、自分が火山の会の会員だとか、彼の息子が日本の国際基督教大学にいるとか、今日その近くで強い地震があったとか、おおいに話が弾み、再びちょっとペレの毛を頂戴と頼んだのですが、ここは国立公園だから駄目だと断られました。素晴らしい職業意識です。

The leeward of the crater many Pele's Hair drifted. I asked Ranger "give me a pinch" He said "no"

We had lively conversation such as　　I'm a member of Japanese Volcano Lovers Association. His son is learning at Japanese International Christian University. Near the city of that university has strong earthquake Today, etc. 

Then I asked again "give me little hair in secret"  but he said "No. " again. In the National Park we can take out nothing he said. He is Pro!!



スコリア丘に登る climb Cinder cone

 

 

マウナ・ケアの中腹から撮った写真で、右手のスコリア丘に上ってみたくなり挑戦しました。

I took this picture from the half way up Mauna Kea. I challenged to clime the right side cinder cone.



 

 

この看板から、舗装道路から離れなれます。

Turned left from the paved road at this sign.





4WDなら通れる道ですが、エコノミークラスのレンタカーではちょっと無理なので歩きました。足音を聞きつけて、何羽もの鳥がチョコチョコ歩いて逃げていきました。
This road is passable by 4WD but my lent a car was economy class 2WD so I walked up it. Many unknown birds escaped by toddling to hear my footsteps .



 

 

外来種で悪役のビロードモウズイカがいたるところで繁茂しています。

Vervet-Mouzuica( not sure this name), a bad alien, grow everywhere.



 



 

 

稜線まで簡単に行きつきました。典型的なクレーターですが、後で気が付いたのですが底に何かが作られています。

It was easy to clime up to hill ridge. It was typical crater, almost every cider cones are like this but I recognized something in the bottom later.

望遠で見てみると、祭壇ができていました。この辺はハワイアンにとって神聖な場所です。

I saw the bottom through telescope. I can find the alter. Around here it is the holly place for Hawaiian.

 

 

稜線の周りにはいろいろな形の火山弾と動物の白骨が。

By the pass there were many kind of volcanic bombs and bleached bones.

 

 

頂上から見たマウナ・ロア方向です。古いスコリア丘は植物が生え、崩れて変形しています。黒い溶岩流はマウナ・ロアの溶岩流で、この辺はケアとロアがせめぎあっている部分です。

The view to Mauna Loa. Old cinder cones are covered with plant and collapsed. Black lava flow came from Mauna Loa. Around there is a front of two gigantic volcanoes.

 



 

 

コナ方面には米軍の基地が見えます。短いけど滑走路も。

There is a army training base to Kona direction with an airstrip.

オニヅカ・ヴィジターセンターの前には、神聖な場所である頂上に建設中の30ｍ望遠鏡(日本が25％出資）に反対するハワイアンの団体の小屋ができていました。写真をクリックして拡大するとハワイの州旗が逆さにつけられているのがわかると思います。これは、反対のシンボルだそうです。

Front of the Onizuka Visitor center there are cabins that for the Hawaiian group who protest the construction of TMT(Thirty Meters Telescope, Japan is financing 25%), because the summit aria is sacred place for them. One Hawaii State flag is hoisted upside down, it is the symbol of protest, I heard.

 

 

余談ですが、小生のレンタカーのタイヤに注目してください。スコリア丘登山から帰ってみたらパンクしていました。運転歴55年の小生にしてみればパンクの修理などお手の物ですが、岩だらけの場所でジャッキアップし乏しい工具で30分も奮闘しました。

By the way, look at my tire. When I returned the hike, my car was flat tire. I have 55years driving career so flat tire is not so big trouble but I struggled 30 minutes to jack up on the rocky ground and removed tire by poor tools.



ハワイ火山コイン Hawaii Volcanoes Quarter

 2010年に25セント硬貨の新しいデザインとして、56の国立公園のものを作ることが決められ、この度ハワイ火山国立公園のものが発行されました。キラウエアのプウ・オオ火口から溶岩流や噴石が飛び散る様子まで刻まれた精巧なものです。
拡大すると読める　Ｅ　Ｐｌｕｒｉｂｕｓ　Ｕｎｕｍ　は1955年までの公式標語「多数から一つへ」、現在は　Ｉｎ　Ｇｏｄ　Ｗｅ　Ｔｒｕｓｔ　「我々は神を信じる」で、表面にはこの文言が刻まれています。
The law to mint 56 US National Parks Quarter was enforced in 2010.　This time Hawaiian Volcanoes Quarter was issued. It is very elaborate one that carves incandescent rubbles and Lava flow from Pu'u O'o crater.
( If you crick this photo you can read Latin words " E Pluribus Unum", official motto of US until 1955, means "out of many, one"  Now is "In God We Trust"  Both Mottoes are carved both side of this coin.....of course I don't write this sentence for American readers...)
　　　　　　　　　　　
 キーホルダーにするアタッチメントが、ヒロではどうしても見つからず、東急ハンズで、写真を入れてキーホルダーを作るハメパチがどうやら合うので、いいキーホルダーができました。（厚みがあるのでぱちんとは蓋がはまらず、接着剤で蓋をとめました）
I could not get an attachment to make key chain of this coin in Hilo, but I got it in Tokyo. It is for making key chain by inserting photos, named Hamepachi( means the lid shut with a click) key holder. Coin is too thick to shut the lid with click so I fixed the lid with glue.

アメリカでは、50州のシンボルをデザインした、25セント（クォーター）が発行し終わって、自治領のものそして国立公園と続くようです。やっと50州全部そろえてやれやれと思っていたのですが・・・・
The series of 50 States Quarter finished. I collected all of them with great difficulty but new series start!!!

50州シリーズの最後が、ハワイで、カメハメハ大王がデザインされ、「治世は、正義によって永遠に続く」というハワイ語が刻まれています。
The last coin of 50 States series is Hawaii. Kamehameha the Great is designed with Hawaiian words "Ke Sa Oka Aina I Kapono" means " With Justice, a reign continues forever". ( I'm not sure of this translation)

フアラライ山 Mt.Hualalai

四国の半分ほどの大きさのハワイ島ですが、さすが火山島だけあって大きな火山が５っあります。何度もこのブログで取り上げた、マウナ・ケア（4205ｍ）　マウナ・ロア（4169ｍ）　コハラ山脈（1670ｍ）　キラウエア山（1248ｍ）　そしてこの写真がフアラライ山（2521ｍ）です。 この写真はマウナ･ケアとマウナ･ロアの間を走るサドル･ロード（この道はレンターカー走行禁止です）から撮ったもので、広大な牧場越しに雄大な山容が望まれます。
The Big-Island, that is only half size of Shikoku Island of Japan, is a volcanic island so it has 5 big volcanoes.
Mauna Kea (13,796feet) Mauna Loa(13,677feet) Kohala Mountains (5506feet) Kilauea (4094feet) This photo is Mt. Hualalai, elevation is 8271feet. I took this photos on the way of Saddle Road passing between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Rent-a-car is prohibited to drive this Road. We can see the magnificent shape of this mountain through the wide ranch.

この山は私有地だそうで、限られた旅行社のツアーでしか登れません。かなり濃い霞がかかっていますが、これはヴォグ（ヴォルカニック・フォグ）と呼ばれる、キラウエアのハレマウマウ火口から出ている噴煙がかかっているものです。（キラウエア参照）　このヴォグは貿易風で通常コナ側に流れていますが、時々ヒロにも流れてきます。
This mountain is private property so we cannot climb without using tour of the specific travel agent. A haze is hanging over the mountain. It is what is called Vog, volcanic fog, from the smoke of Halemaumau vent of Kilauea. (see Kilauea  of this blog) It usually flow to Kona side by Trade Wind. But sometime it come to Hilo.

I took this picture from half way of Mauna Kea. It looks smaller because seeing from the gigantic mountain.

カラパナ溶岩流 Lova flow at Kalapana

友人よりこのブログの冒頭の写真の所は簡単に行けるか問い合わせがありました。 かつては駐車場から15分のところから見えたのですが。
この記事はその問い合わせに対する答えです。
新しい溶岩流が押し寄せてきました。
My friend asked me that is it easy to see the view of the picture at the top of this blog. At that time we could go to the point only 15minutes from the parking place.
But now, following is the answer to this question.
New lave flow has been surged in this area.





今も押し寄せています。
It is surging now.

その結果、かって駐車場があった手前からこのような溶岩でふさがれてしまいました。撮影したポイントに行くには明るいうちにこの溶岩の上を多分30分以上歩いていかなければならないでしょう。写真を撮るには暗くなってからなので、暗い中を歩いて帰ってこなければなりません。
私もまだ行っていません。今度行き方を調べてみます。
As a result, the parking place and road were buried with thick lava. So we have to walk over 30minutes to go to the place taken of this picture.
And it is very lough ground so we go there while it is still light but to take photos of red lava we have to wait until dark and go back the same way in the dark.
I have never been there so I'll examine how to go there.

カウマナ溶岩洞窟 Kaumana Lava Caveｓ

ヒロの郊外にあるカウマナ・ケーヴに行ってきました。ここは,一部車椅子も入れるキラウエアのサーストン･ラバ・チューブと違って、整備されていないので近くに住む知人に連れて行ってもらいました。
Caves と複数になっているのは、我々が入ったものと反対側にもう一つ洞窟があるからです。そして出入りはこちらからと書いてあるのは、彼の家のすぐそばに開口部があって、それは鉄柵で閉じられているからでしょう。2マイルぐらいの距離があるそうです。
I went to Kaumana caves, in a suburb of Hilo. Unlike Thurston Lava Tube at Kilauea, partially wheelchair accessible, it was not maintained. So I asked my friend, who lives near the cave, to guide.
There is another one opposite side of the cave that we went in, so guide board indicated "caves".
"Enter and Exit this side" means this cave has another opening near my friend's house but is closed with iron grille. It is about 2miles away.


ラバ･チューブは溶岩流の空気と触れるところが冷えて固まり、それにより保温された溶岩がすべて流れ出してできたトンネルです。ハワイ島にはたくさんあります。
Lava flow cool more quickly along the outer edges and harden. This insulates molten lava and later these liquid lava drains from the tube. Thus lava tunnel is formed. There are many lava tubes in Big-island





真っ暗で、足元は岩がごろごろ。案内無しで来たならばこの辺で引き返したでしょう。
It was pitch-dark and we had to walk on the large and unstable rock. If I came here without him, I might return at this point.

彼の持っている強力なトーチとよきガイドによってかなりおくまで進むことができました。上から下がっているのは、木の根っこです。壁といい天井といいなんとも言えず不気味で、地獄に下りていくオルフェのような気持ちです。（エウディリーケに会うことは期待できませんが)

Owing to him and his powerful torch, I could go inner part of the cave. Many roots of trees were hanging from the ceiling. It looked ominous and I felt as if I was Orpheus going down to hell to look for Eurydike. ( Of course, I could not expect to meet her)

温度と成分が違った溶岩がしみだしてきて、こんな造形を。しかしこんなところにいたずら書きする人が。自然保護がうるさいハワイ島ですが、ほとんど誰もいないからやってみたくなるのでしょうね。我々も入り口付近で一組とすれ違ったほかは、誰にも会いませんでした。

Lava of different temperature and composition oozed from wall made such funny shape. Some one wrote graffiti. The residents of Hawaii are eager about nature protection. But this man could not controll the temptation to write because there were no one around him.

There were few person in the cave. We met only one party at the entrance hall.

500mぐらい進んだのでしょうか。ここが我々が引き返したところです。ここから先は腹ばいになって進まなければなりません。するとまた広いところに出るそうですが、今回は女性子供が多いのでここまでということになりました。残念!（助かった・・）　
フラッシュとASA3600まで感度を上げたために明るく見えますが、もちろん真っ暗闇です。

We advanced about 500m, it was the point we turned back. If we want to go more we must crawl on knees and hands, ahead of this narrow place we can go out wide tunnel again. But this time we came here with little children and ladies, so we stopped here. Too bad!!(Too lucky!!)

I used flash right and increased sensitivity of camera to ASA3600, this place looks bright, but of course it was pitch-dark.
