オヒア・レフア Ohia tree

オヒア・レフアは溶岩に覆われて不毛の大地と化した土地にシダ類と並んで最初に生える木です。
小さなうちから可憐な真っ赤な花をつけるとても特徴のある木です。
ハワイの伝説によると、火山の女神ペレがオヒアに恋をして精一杯着飾って結婚の申し込みをしたのですが、既にレフアに恋をしていたオヒアは申し出を断ります。激情の女神ペレは大いに怒り、オヒアを木に変えてしまいます。それを哀れんだほかの神々がレフアを真紅の花に変えオヒアに添わせたそうです。
もし、レフアの花を摘むとオヒアの涙が雨になって降り注ぐことになります。
Ohi'a tree is one of the first vegetation (may be fern is first) growing up on the barren land covered with Lava. It has crimson flowers even it is very small tree.
According to Hawaiian legend, The volcano goddess Pele fell in love with Ohi'a and dressed up and proposed to him. But he turned her down and confessed his eternal love for beautiful girl Lefua.
Pele, who had a violent emotions, got angry very much and turn him to the tree. Other gods felt pity and tried to reverse him but they could not, so they turned Lehua to beautiful blossom and reunited the Ohi'a tree as the next best.
If we pick Lehua blossom off, Ohi'a tree will produce rain as his tears.
