マウナ・ケアの山頂(2) summit of Mauna Kea(2)

4WDで日没を見ようとマウナ・ケアの頂上に向かいました。夕方で長い影を曳いています。
I intended to see sunset at the summit of Mauna Kea by 4WD Jeep. It is the glacial field near the top.
Toward evening there was long shadow of me.

天文台が集まっているところが頂上ではなくそこから少し離れたところに本当の頂上が。
車を置いてからわずかな距離ですが、なにしろ4000ｍの高さがあります。かなり苦しい歩きになります。頂上で凧を揚げている人がいました。
It is the true summit nearby the place that many astronomical observatories are concentrated. I parked that place and walked to the summit. Not so far but because of oxygen shortage it was very hard walk. Some one flew a kite.

頂上にある祭壇。ハワイアンにとっては神聖な場所です。常に捧げものがあります。

たまたま会ったドイツ人が、ガールフレントに頼まれたからと言って、彼女のマスコットを写真に撮っていました。彼はシュトットガルトから来て、オバマと下院の対立による国立公園の閉鎖で、キラウエアに行けなかったと悔しがっていました。
I went there with a man from Germany, Stuttgart. I just happened to meet him on the way. He took a picture of this stuffed dog. He said his girl friend asked him to take this picture. Cute!!
He could not to go Kilauea National Park, because of the conflict between President Obama and The Lower House. He came here to see Kilauea from such a far-off country, he was disappointed very much.

観測準備のため覆いを開けたジェミニ(ふたご座)・ノース天文台。8.1ｍの大反射鏡を備えています。ジェミニ・サウスはチリのパチョン山（2722ｍ）にあります。写真をクリックして拡大すると人が見えます。
Gemini (a constellation of the Twins) North Observatory opened the outer wall to get ready for observation. It has 8.1m reflector. Gemini South is at the Mt Pachon (2722m), Chile. Click the photo to enlarge, you can see a staff.

日没。6時31分。キラウエア国立公園が閉鎖されているせいか、いつもより多いツアーバスが集まっていた。
Sunset of Mauna Kea at 6:31p.m. More tour buses were gathering than usual because of Kilauea closed.
