ハリケーン イゼレの爪あと Trace of Hurricane Iselle

 溶岩樹公園の近くを通る１３２号線は、アルビジアの大木のうっそうとした、昼なを暗き密林の中の私が大好きな道でした。
Rout 132, passing nearby The Lava tree Park, is my favorite road because of the thick forest of large Albizia trees. It is dusky even in the daytime.

 それが、ハリケーン イゼレの被害を受けてこの有様、日がさんさんと当たる明るい道に変貌しました。私が訪れたのは１か月後の9月6日の日でした。
ハリケーンがハワイ島を襲うのはめったにないことで(オアフ島はしょっちゅうだそうですが）、水や電池などが売り切れ、若干パニック状態だったそうです。
ハリケーンの強さは、カテゴリー4、947ヘクトパスカル、最大風速43m/秒、雨量はトータル300mmにもなりました。
But suffering big damage from the Hurricane Iselle it becomes sunny road. I visited here one month later the Iselle, Sep.6/2014.
It is rare the Hurricane attack the Big Island (Oahu Isl. is often)  so it caused a little bit panic, water and battery were sold out.
Strength of Iselle is category 4, 947hPa, wind speed 100mi/h, over 300mm total precipitation.

 



道路ぎわのアルビジアの大木は軒並み倒れ、道路をふさいだそうですが、一か月後の今は片付けられていました。この木はモンキーポッド（この～木何の木で有名な）と同じ仲間ですが、こちらのほうは非常にもろいそうです。亜熱帯の樹なので年輪がほとんどありません。

道路ぎわがやられたのは、風の通り道だからだそうです。

こんな光景はヒロの郊外、カーチスタウンやほうぼうの場所で見られました。

溶岩樹公園はクローズされています。

So many big Albizias of road side fell and blocked the road but now taken away. Albizia is same kind of Monkey Pod (it is very famous in Japan, main character of the electric company's TV commercial) but it is very weak and fragile. This subtropical tree has not tree ring. Road side trees mainly got damage because wind passed the road like cars. Such sight are viewed at the suburbs of Hilo, Kartistown,etc.

Lava Tree Park is closed now.

 



 

 海岸近くを走る道路では、この状態で通行できないところも残っています。電気が復旧していないところもまだあるそうです。人命の被害がなかったのは不幸中の幸いでした。

ここプナ地区はまたまた溶岩流が迫ってき始めました。(９月２３日現在農場をかすめながらも森の中を進んでいます。その先にはヒロとパオアを結ぶ極めて重要な130号線があります）
Some road of coast side is impassable in such condition. And somewhere dose not recover the electric even now.
Lava flow are closing to this area, Puna District, again. It advance in the wood grazing the farm. Beyond this point there is the Rout 130, very important road connecting Hilo to Pahoa.

カフク・トレッキング・エリア Kahuku Treking Area

キラウエア火山に入園するときにくれるパンフレットに、新しく「カフク・トレッキング・エリア」の案内図があったので、行ってみました。
ヒロから11号線を南下し、サウスポイントに行く道を通り越して間もなく(70 マイル標識の先）を右に入ったところです。
ハワイ・ヴォルケーノ国立公園の一部なので、入り口にはレンジャーが二人配置されていました。何とも言えずチャーミングな女性ですが、レンジャーはルール違反者を逮捕する権限を持っているとのことです。
ここは、まだ開発途上ですが、すでにいくつかのトレッキングコースがオープンしています。土曜日(第一土曜日を除く)　と日曜日しか入れません。
I went to Kahuku Unite of Hawaiian Volcano National Park, I knew there by the leaflet that gave us at the entrance of Kilauea Volcano.
It is located going Hwy 11 to the south and turning right just after passing the road to South Point( soon after 70ml marker).
Two Rangers were stationed at the gate because it is the part of National Park. She is very charming and elegant lady but Ranger has a power to arrest the violator of the park rules.
This Unite is still in the development stage but several trail are already opened.
This park open only Saturday( except the first Saturday of the month) and Sunday.

四つあるトレッキングコースのうち、一番手前の、楽そうなパーム(ヤシの木)コースを行くことにしました。
コースの入り口に、、外来種の種を持ち込まないようにするため 靴をブラッシングする装置がありました。
I decided to go the easiest trekking course named Palm Trail. At the entrance there was an equipment to brush out the seeds of alien.

トレッキングコースの最初の部分です。いかにも気持ちよさそうなコースです。
This is the beginning part of the course. It looks very comfortable to walk.

昔、牧場があったところで、巨大な楯状火山マウナ・ロアの南のすそ野に当たるところだけに、広々とした緩い下り坂が続いています。
It is on the foot of gigantic shield volcano, Mauna Loa, and in the old day there was a ranch so very wide and gentle slope is continued.

灌木が多いオヒアレフアには珍しい大きな木で、満開に花をつけていました。
Many Ohia trees are shrub, but this is a very big and in full blossom.

何といって特別な見どころがあるわけではありませんが、道端でお弁当を食べたりして、全行程4.2ｋｍ、一時間超ののんびりとした気持ちのいい散歩道でした。その間誰にも会いませんでした。
It has no special view point but it was a wonderful easygoing 2.5miles, little over one  hour, trail. we were able to take lunch at the road side. I never met anybody on the course.

F22戦闘機 Fighter F-22

私のコンドーの通路側から見た景色は 、こんな感じです。スコールが見えています。これはかなりのスピードで移動しますので、ザアーと来たかと思うと、またカンカン照りになったりします。
池の向こう側はヒロ空港です。
This is the view from my apartment of passage side. You can see the squall cloud. It moves very quick so soon after heavy rain the sun blazes up. It is the Hilo Air Port beyond the pond.

いつも乗っているハワイアン航空がこんな感じで飛び立ちます。日本に帰る友達を見送るため手コンドーからを振ったのですが、反対側の席で見えなかったそうです。
The plane of Hawaiian Air Line I am usually boarding takes off like this. I waved hand from this passage when my friend went  back to Japan but they could  not see it because they seated opposite side.

ある日、ものすごい轟音に驚いて飛び出すと、見たこともないような戦闘機が、タッチ　アンド　ゴーを繰り返していました。
Someday I was very surprised by the terrible sound. Those were the Fighters training sound, touch and go.

三機の編隊です。この写真を、日本火山の会の友人で、飛行機マニアの大石さんに見せたら、すぐF-22だと教えてくれました。以下は彼の解説です。
Tree fighters, I have never seen such weird plane. I sent these photos to my friend Dr.Oishi. He is the member of Japan Volcano Lovers Association, and also maniac about air plane. He soon taught me, these were fighter of F-22.

「増槽(燃料タンク)を両翼に装備しているF-22は初めて見ました。
航空自衛隊の次期戦闘機として、日本がアメリカから購入しようとしましたが、あまりに高性能で価格が飛びぬけて高く、またそもそもオバマ大統領が禁輸措置をして、さらにアメリカ国内でも高価格過ぎて調達をやめてしまったため、生産されなくなってしまいました。日本はかなり根気よく購入を打診しましたが、結局断念しました。」
「ホノルルのヒッカム空軍基地で実戦配備されています。昨年ハワイに行ったとき、ホノルル空港で旅客機の窓から見えました。ヒッカム所属機がヒロ空港で訓練していたのかもしれませんね」　とのことでした。
He taught me
"It's  my first time to see the F-22 with spare fuel tanks.
The Air Self-Defense Force of Japan once wanted to buy them, but it was so expensive, furthermore President Obama ordered of embargo because of so much secret and high technology, they gave up to buy after long and patient negotiation. US Air Force also stoped to purchase because of high cost."
"These are deployed at Hickam Air Force Base in Oahu isl.. I saw them from the window of airplane at Honolulu Air Port when I went to Hawaii last year. I think these are the planes of Hickam and training at Hilo Air Port"

超高性能のステルス戦闘機をまじかに見れて幸運でしたが、こんなに小さな民間空港で、すさまじい音とスピードで発着(着発)訓練をするとはちょっと驚きです。ハワイアン航空の写真は訓練の合間に飛び立ったものです。
I was so luck to see the high performance plane such near distance, but I was amazed to see touch and go training at small civilian air port with terrible sound and speed.
The photo of Hawaiian Air was take off in the middle of this training.

カールスミス公園 Carlsmith Beach Park

私のコンドーのすぐそばは、カールスミス・ビーチ・パークという素晴らしい公園です。この写真は、たまたま屋根に上がれた時に撮ったものです。
Near my apartment there is a wonderful park named Carlsmith Beach Park. This photo took from the roof of the apartment.

入江で波も静かで、シュノケールにはもってこいのところで、土日は家族連れがたくさん来ています。
The place forms an inlet, and wave is very calm so it is good spot of snorkeling. On weekend it was crowded with many families.

海中を撮るために、防水カメラを買いました。 買値は12,000円といったところで、水中10ｍまではだいじょうぶです。
To take the photo of submarine I bought a waterproof Camera, it is not so expensive, about $120, but 10m water resist.

そこで、水中写真を…眼鏡が必要な私は、ファインダーをよく見れないのでなかなかうまく取れません。上の写真には、魚が写っていますが、偶然です。
I took these photos but it was very difficult for me to see finder in the sea because I need glasses. I took fish by accident.

ただ、海に持って入れるので、海の中から岸を見た写真が取れます。建物は私のコンドーです。
この日は大潮で、潮はかなり引いています。クリックして写真を拡大し、手すりに注目してください
But I could bring it in the sea so I took a picture of shore from the sea. White building is my apartment. This day was a season of the spring tide so very big ebb tide. Click the photo to enlarge and attention to the handrail.

 

 

満ち潮のときはこの状態ですから、そうとう引いているのがわかると思います。

This is a photo at high tide. You can see the difference of high and ebb.

 

東側に向いているので、真っ赤な夕陽はみえませんが、なかなか情緒のある夕暮れです。東京近辺でしたら、恋を語らう二人連れでいっぱいになりそうですが、ここではそんな二人を見たことがありません。
It is facing east so we cannot see red sunset  but it has a great deal of atmosphere. If it is near Tokyo, so many couples gather and have a nice conversation but I have never seen such a couple here.



ハワイアンモンク アザラシ Hawaiian Monk Seal

 



友人（アラン）が4WDでなければいけない秘密のビーチがあると誘ってくれました。なるほどひどい悪路（これを道というならば）で、相当の技術もないといけません。
My friend, Alan, invited me to go secret beach, where only 4WD vehicles can go. Indeed it was a awful road, if we call it "road". It is necessary not only 4WD but also high driving technique.



後ろから来る車も苦戦しています。
The car followed us also did a hard fight.

はたして通れるかどうか、友人のお嬢さんが確認しています。もし亀の子状態になったら4WDであろうがどうしょもならなくなってしまいます。国道からわずか2.4Kmの距離を50分かけておりました。
Alan's daughter checked it could pass a big projections. If the car became "turtle state", Japanese expression it means turtle body on the stone and 4 legs in the air, even 4WD could not go over.
Only 1.5ml from the high way it took 50 minutes.

苦労しただけあって、素晴らしい海岸です。マカラヴェナ・ビーチという名の、カメハメハ　スクールの所有地で、ゲートがあります。
It was worth a hard driving, extremely beautiful beach, named Makalawena. It was a private property of Kamehameha School, so there was a gate.

人もほとんどいません。あんな思いをしてくる物好きはあまりいませんし、それ以上に、行ったことのない人は、降りていけるという確信も、それ以上に登って帰ってこられるという自信もわかないでしょう。
There was a few person who was curious to overcame such hard drive. The man who has not been there has not a conviction to able to go down and to go up to come back.

海辺からすぐのところに、変なものが横たわっているのを、アランが見つけ、ハワイモンクあざらしだと教えてくれました。
Alan found a strange object near the shore and taught me that was a Hawaiian Monk Seal.

買ったばかりの水中用カメラをもってちかづきました。アランに危険だし禁じられているからあまり近づかないようにと注意されたので、この程度の距離から写真を撮ることで我慢しました。
I approached it with the water proof camera just I bought it. But Alan warned me not to go close because of danger and prohibited. So I had patience to keep this distance.

近くを通りかかった二人の女性が気が付かなかったので、教えてあげたら、びっくりして写真を撮り、この動物に詳しい人と見えて、いろいろ教えてくれました。

1.　このアザラシは、ハワイの固有種で、ハワイ固有の哺乳類は、もう一種、オペアペアという蝙　　蝠だけであること。
2.　ハワイ島には7~8頭しかいなくて、自分も前に一度見ただけであること。ニイハウ島には数十頭　いるとのこと。
3.　絶滅危惧種で、手厚く保護されていること。

21枚も写真を撮りましたが、彼（彼女?）が目を開けて、笑ってくれたのはこの写真だけでした。

Two girls passed by but they did not notice it so I taught it to them. They were very surprised and pleased and took many pictures. They were well acquainted with Monk Seal so taught me about it.
1. This Hawaiian Monk Seal is a Endemic spices of Hawaii. The native mammals of Hawaii are only two, Monk Seal and the bad named Opeapea.
2.There were only 7~8 Monk Seals at Big Island. She has seen it only once. Several ten Monk Seals are living at Niihau isl.
3.This is endanger spices and are protected with great care.

I took 21 photos of it, but only one is eyes open and smile.
